Expressions of Interest to the Bay of Plenty Regional Council's Regional Infrastructure Fund close this week.
The Fund, which has been set up to support sustainable regional economic development, has been receiving Expressions of Interest since 20 August to gauge the level of interest in accessing funding support from Council.
More than $38million is available to support external infrastructure projects over the nine years to June 2022.
Council is looking for large projects that will provide sustainable economic benefits to the Bay of Plenty.
Following the Expressions of Interest process closing on Friday, September 21, Council will meet to discuss these expressions of interest. The key next step is that the formal funding applications are due by 31 January 2013.

Why the Council continues to allocate such large funds of money to these sustainable employment projects is beyond me. Surely there are more realistic projects that are deserving. I can just see organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Priority One rubbing their hands in glee. They will be able to do a bit more telemarketing and posting out of brochures, while claiming exhorbitant fees and claiming success for one or two businesses who may be thinking of relocating here.
SUSTAINABLE v COUNCIL

They are opposites, how can a Council possibly understand anything like that type of connection. SAGE, you forgot SMARTGROWTH will be in there feasting on the funds as well, byt the time they are finished they will be building mussel farms in the middle of the Safara Desert. The credit will be claimed regardless for decisions that may well have already been made to move here by others, but will that be balanced by the decisions to leave? Sounds a bit like a pokie machine addict, always counting the winnings and always forgetting how much more went in to get it!
