People are being invited to have a go a shucking in Maketu this weekend.
Maketu Ongatoro Wetland Society is holding a working bee this Saturday and would love your help.
"Come along and help shuck/extract seeds from native coastal plants to provide a seed source for future plants," says a statement from event organisers
"These seeds will be provided to nurseries to grow so that we can continue to plant kawhangatara (spinifex) in our sand dunes.
"This event will go ahead in rain or shine and anyone can participate, no matter what age you are or your level of fitness.
"Light morning tea will be provided."
