Waterfront opening party planned

Celebrations marking the completion of the first part of the Waterfront Project in Tauranga are set to take place this weekend.

From 2.30pm on Sunday, a range of events and activities including a fireworks extravaganza will take place in a family friendly party hosted by Tauranga City Council.

Construction on the TTC Waterfront Project, estimated to cost about $600,000, began early this year and will continue into 2013.

Stage One of the project, including a five metre boardwalk along the waterfront is now complete.

Stage Two, a children's playground, is planned for early next year.

Anyone is welcome to attend Sunday's celebration where further events planned include puppet shows, Hairy Maclary readings, local musicians fronted by Luke Thompson and a pirate show.

There will also be face painting, a metal maze, live busking and Little Big Markets.

This is the first of many events scheduled to showcase the Waterfront throughout the spring and summer seasons.

The event is weather-dependent and could be postponed if bad weather arises.

The Spring Street Parking Building will be open from 10:30am - 9:30pm on the day and it will be free to park there. Please note that there will be no parking on the Waterfront on the day.

More mindless council funded stuff they should have no business interfering in. When will these bozos ever learn? SACK every last one of them who encouraged, organised, and poked their nose in into business they have no right poking their noses into. Its about time you people stopped giving your permission to busyboddies and dogooders, by voting them on to council. Stop voting for people who tell you what they WANT TO DO, and start voting for those who tell you what they are NOT going to do.
