The Acorn Foundation is taking on the administration of the Dr Leonard Randell Memorial Scholarship Trust, which is an annual award for a Te Puke High School student.

The scholarship was established in memory of Te Puke's much-respected doctor, Dr Leonard Randell, who provided exemplary healthcare services to Te Puke communities regardless of clients' ability to pay.

Dr Leonard Randell set up his medical practice after arriving in Te Puke in 1930.

The scholarship assists with the first year of tertiary education, being a full or part time course of study or training at a university, college of education or polytechnic within New Zealand as recognised under the Education Act 1989 as amended by the Education Amendment Act 1990 and amendments.

The trustees have recently resettled the trust with Acorn, with on-going participants for the selection of the scholarship winner from the following community organizations: Te Puke High School, Te Puke Community Board, the local Rotary Club and Federated Farmers Te Puke.

'The cool thing is, all that's changing is the administration of it," says Western Bay of Plenty District councillor and Dr Leonard Randell Memorial Scholarship Trust Chair Richard Crawford about the resettlement to Acorn.
