The Govt should fund St John ambulances

Why does New Zealand need to steal charity money for Hato Hone St John ambulance to operate? The public are being asked to pay for what is a government-seen essential service and certainly not a charity. Why don't we make the Army, and the Police a charity perhaps? Or make the MPs volunteer in Parliament? It is said that no government should ever use any charity for funding. NZ has nearly 30,000 charities for about five million people?

I couldn’t agree more, and the same with all rescue services I.e. helicopters, fire services, the lot. It’s an absolute disgrace that services we could all rely on oneday have to continue going cap in hand to the public when the government has the means to fund them. As Ron Chamberlain puts it why not make our M.P.s voluntary? I can guarantee if it ever came to that parliament would be almost empty. Meanwhile these selfless workers continue to give of their best, helping and saving all regardless.
