A man has died following a water-related incident in Kaiaua on Sunday.

Police were called at around 5.10am on Sunday, July 16, after a man was located dead.

"The man and a dinghy were recovered from the water," says a police spokesperson.

"The death will be referred to the Coroner."

Coromandel's CFM says the person was recovered deceased from the water near the Kaiaua Boating Club.

"The Kaiaua Boating Club notified members of the incident which occurred outside the boating club in the early hours of this morning," says a Coromandel CFM spokesperson.

"According to the club, a rahui is in place until midnight on Tuesday.

"The area applicable is from the quarry north of the boating club to Rays Rest to the south of the club."
