Re: ‘I just don’t understand why’ (Letters page 16, The Weekend Sun July 28 edition).
Your correspondents Jackie and Neil Stewart last week raised the use of mixed language in the Tauranga City Council communication and a reply from the council assured that certain Māori words were well understood.
That is simply trying to be woke and not true for the general population. I’m glad sign – which is also an official language – cannot be included otherwise you would likely have that in the mix. There is an old saying: ‘Keep it simple stupid’ – which by interpretation means don’t complicate and confuse.
