Bay of Plenty Regional Council has issued an abatement notice to a Mount Maunganui company following multiple calls to its pollution hotline.
In a post on Facebook, the council says it has had lots of calls to "our Pollution Hotline over the weekend reporting a burning smell in the Mount area".
"This was caused by a giant pile of smouldering grain in a storage shed," the post reads.
"The company is making every effort to cool it down and stop the smell but we understand its still really smelly.
"We have issued an abatement notice to the company responsible and will continue to monitor the situation."

It had a smell a built like electrical burning. Wondered what it was.
Council should publish all of their noise / pollution / nuisance complaints on a map. Why should this information be kept secret from the public, until it ends up on social media?
There was a strong odour at our house at the Mount the other week -- outside and inside smelled like decaying meat. We think it was coming from the direction of the ports, it was disgusting.
