Ever wanted to see where the voice on a marine radio comes from? Or maybe you want to become one of those voices?

People will have a chance this weekend to visit the Coastguard Communications East to meet the dedicated team based in Mount Maugnanui.

"You will be able to tour the Communications Centre and gain insights into the role from our passionate volunteers," says Coastguard New Zealand on Facebook.

Coastguard Communications East is now looking to boost numbers ready for next summer.

"Volunteer as a Radio Operator Become an integral part of the national Communications Team, serving as the primary contact for both boaties and rescue crews.

"Experience is not required; all necessary training is provided free of charge. By joining us, you'll have the opportunity to attain Coastguard NZ qualifications, including VHF Radio Operator and Day Skipper certifications, at no expense.

"What We're Looking For: Your keyboard proficiency and keen hearing (with or without aids) are the key qualities we seek. Bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn."
