They’ve at the topic for the second half of the year – and now they’re getting some hands on experience to further their learning.
Students from Tauranga Special School are stoked to be at Waipuna Park today, getting a close up look at vehicles from around the bay.
Professional learning leader Pip Johnathan says the students are getting a close up look with police cars, chevys, a big yellow bus, a truck and trailer, and anything else friends of the school and staff thought they could bring along.
“This really gives our students a chance to get up close with vehicles and see them for themselves. We have around 100 students and 100 staff attending, plus families from the school.”

Staff are getting amongst the fun too, as Pip is bringing along her quad bike and another staff member is bringing along a go-cart for the students to sit in.
“We’ve got a loop for cycles too, so the students can cycle in a little area. It really is a beneficial event for the kids to further their understanding on the topic.”

Throughout the year, the students, aged 5 to 21-years-old, have been looking at all types of vehicles to get an understanding of how they work.
Although they have visited the airport to see planes, this event is the first time the students have been able to get involved with a large scale event and hands on learning.
“Lots of people are donating their time and taking time off of work to make this happen, it’s really awesome.”
