Chris Hipkins says the Labour party wants to accelerate progress in reducing emissions if re-elected.

Hipkins has visited the WISE group depot, a Warmer Kiwi Homes provider, Ara Ake, where he looked at solar panel technology and got on the barbecue for a sausage sizzle while election campaigning in New Plymouth today.

He says Labour wants to accelerate progress in reducing emissions. He says the plan is "realistic" and "comprehensive".

The new initiatives proposed in Labour's 'climate manifesto' would be funded from the climate emergency respond fund.

National's Christopher Luxon spoke to media earlier, following his announcement that he could work with New Zealand First if it came down to it.

Despite saying he was willing to pick up the phone and call Winston Peters, Luxon said he did not know Peters well - and was not sure if he had his phone number.
