HOW MUCH FOR A SHELTER

Posted on 08-10-2012 12:14 | By YOGI

The last one was on Cliff Road at $295,000, more than aenough to build an entire house for the average Joe, and all Council get is a couple of walls and a seat?

Just read in the council upgrades that they are doing something about pedestrian safety, one wonders how long it will take the council to upgrade the paving around the city so that it will not be lethal to pedestrians on a wet day particularly in Devonport Road. In the last submission process I approached Council regarding this and got back the old chestnut that it comes up to New Zealand Safety standards, think it is about time the standards where changed, I have also spoken to people on the Council Elders forum about this issue and they pretty much agree that there needs to be something done before someone gets badly hurt. In the letter I received from the council the acknowledged that there had been some accidents in the past, I would think that in that case they would look at the issue for surely 1 accident is one to many !!!!

I totally agree with you about paving area. Those mosaic tiles are really slippery and dangerous. I have slipped on them myself and had cuts and grazes everywhere. When I phoned Council about this I was also told it comes up to NZ Safety Standards. I am very concerned that someone elderly is going to slip on them and really do themselves some damage.

According to the TCC Urban Design Strategy, there was increasing emphasis being placed on street design that increases pedestrian safety and priority... written a while ago though.
