Work will begin on the installation of seven new bus shelters located at different locations in Tauranga City this week.

The bus shelters on Domain Road, Hairini Street, Carmichael Road, 15^th Avenue and Grenada Street are expected to be completed by Christmas reports Tauranga City Council.

The shelters will be located at the following locations: Domain Road - Fronting Westpac Bank; Hairini Street opposite No.1; Carmichael Road, fronting Bethlehem Country Club; 15th Avenue, fronting No.167 and 164 and Grenada Street, fronting No.50 and Bayswater Retirement Village.

City Waters

• Greerton water main upgrades: testing is being done in Cameron Road and installing additional 63mm rider mains in Cameron Road, Church Street, St George Street and Sheppard Street.
• Water main upgrade construction has started in Selwyn Street.
• The tender for water main alterations contract on Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street and Cameron Road and First Ave has been awarded to Schick Construction and Cartage; work starts 5 October with a completion date of 26 October.
• Wet weather delayed finishing of erosion protection works on Castlewold Drive Stream. Further works are planned to repair the erosion.
• A wastewater pump station pipe failure occurred at the Landing Drive station. This is a major pump station and repairs are underway; the pipe is expected to be repaired and operational by the end of today (Friday). There will be more work required after that before the site reinstatement is complete.
• Four sewer blockages occurred this week. One in Cameron Road (Courthouse). CCTV will be used to confirm a suspected damaged connection as the cause.
• Another blockage was off Onyx Way / Harrisfield Street, this occurred in an overgrown area (horse paddock) and was the result of a build up of debris, fat and rags. Another was off Sutherland Road (Judea rugby grounds area), caused by plastic bags/rags. The fourth blockage was off Shearson Street in Monmouth Street where a cable duct thrusting had damaged the connection. None of these were reported as reaching any waterway.

Parks and Leisure

• Waiaka Reserve vegetation enhancement work now complete with great results.
• Resurfacing of the start of the Hammond Street walkway from the Welcome Bay entrance is programmed for this month.
• 30m of retaining wall due to be constructed to retain slip face on the Tom Muir Drive walkway.

City Libraries

Transportation

• Construction Sites: Watch for construction vehicle movements around large commercial construction sites at:

• Police Station Site Willow Street

• Horny Bull Site, The Strand

• 40 Selwyn Street at the corner of Elizabeth Street and Selwyn Street

• Marine Parade: Work to upgrade Marine Parade between Commons Avenue and Pacific Avenue continues. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed by November 2012. Road closures will be in place from time to time with Maunganui Road being the detour route. Expect delays and take care when driving in the area.
• Pedestrian Safety Upgrades: Work to improve pedestrian safety is underway near schools in the following areas: Parton Road, Kaimanawa Street, Argyll Road and at the intersection of Fraser Street and Thirteenth Avenue. Please take care when driving through these sites and watch out for temporary speed restrictions.
• Spring Street Parking Building: Now open until 11:30pm Monday - Saturday and after 7pm it is free to park.
• Streetlight Upgrades: Work to upgrade street lights is due to start this week in Bethlehem Road and Pendennis Crescent.
• Ultrafast Broadband: Work to install Ultrafast Broadband is being done in the Pyes Pa, Aviation Drive and Aerodrome Road areas. Most of the work is being done off the road. The Ultrafast Broadband Project is a central government initiative.
