Police are investigating following a woman being shot in her car in Ōpōtiki on Saturday, October 21.

"Police were called at 2.45pm on Saturday, after a woman arrived at the Ōpōtiki Ambulance Station with a gunshot wound," says a police spokesperson.

"The woman advised Police that she had been injured when her car was shot at."

She was transported to Whakatāne Hospital in a serious condition.

Police say they conducted an operation in Tauranga on Monday morning in relation to the shooting incident and seized a vehicle of interest.

There has been a recent spate of shootings in Ōpōtiki, which police say are gang related.

Police are unable to confirm if this latest incident is also gang related.

"Enquiries are ongoing and there’s no further information available at this stage."
