"Is simply soulful to find someone keen to run that extra mile to look after others. That is something we might not lose as a society.”

These are the words of Vicky Lang after her store window was smashed and a Tauranga woman and her Saint Bernard stood guard until Vicky arrived on the scene.

Liz Grant was walking four-year-old Marlow when she came upon the broken window at the White Rabbit Store on 9th Ave last week.

“This is not the route we usually take, but due to the road works we have to add some extra steps and it was when I found the window smashed open,” says Liz.

“At that time we had no number to ring and inform about the broken glass so I just decided to stay here till someone came to open the store, luckily, another neighbour had the number and called Vicky.”

According to Vicky, her major concern once at the store was to find out if something was missing inside, fortunately as she says everything was in place.

"I was very grateful that Liz and Marlowe had just waited for me to come, after checking into the store I just realised I did not thank her properly so that is why made this post on Facebook to find her and have the pleasure to thank personally."

Flowers, some presents and a forever gratitude says Vicky is the best way to pay to that neighbour “who showed her the values we can never forget”.

"Hope is all that her action has shown to me, hope in the people's heart and gratitude."
