Tauranga Arts Festival is calling all street dance lovers of the Bay of Plenty to team up with Aotearoa's hottest hip-hop and street dance collective and make the biggest freestyle dance battle to the city.

This is the first time we have the Projekt Team as part of the Festival, says Tauranga Arts Festival, artistic director Shane Bosher.

The dance Battle will be led by Projekt Team which is New Zealand's biggest and freshest all-Style Street Dance Collectives. They will partner up the Biggie’s with the Small’s, to battle two versus two.

“The Biggies are experienced freestyle-battle dancers and the Smalls are beginners with little to no experience in dance battles. This will be an amazing experience for all the participants.”

Biggie & Smalls is an epic show of street dance and there is no age limit for the dancers who want to give it a go on the dance floor, says Projekt Team director Mele Paeiloe.

"We have been creating authentic and innovative opportunities for the Hip Hop and Street Dance freestyle community since 2014, and we have found kids with great moves same as youth and adults who leave everything on the battles, so everyone is invited"

As part of the event, the Projekt Team have invited some of the best street dancers in New Zealand who will be guiding the smalls, adds Mele.

“Alongside our team, we will have the winner of the Red Bull Dance Your Style New Zealand 2023, ‘Happy Feet’, who will be showing the moves which led him to win the first-ever dance competition held in the country.”

The two versus two all-style dance battle will take place at the Cargo Shed, today from 6.30 pm and is a free admission event for dancers and whānau.
