One dies following SH25 Coromandel crash

Update, 3.42pm: A person has died following a crash on State Highway 25, in the Coromandel peninsula.

Police say they can now confirm one person has died following a crash south-east of the SH25A turn off, earlier today.

"The road is likely to be closed for at least another hour," says a police spokesperson.

Updates will be available on the NZTA/Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website.

"Please delay your journey or use an alternative route," says an NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

Update, 1.35pm:  State Highway 25 is now closed between Hikuai and Onermana in both directions, while emergency services respond to a serious crash.

The crash involving a car and a motorcycle was reported at 12.45pm, around three kilometres south-east of the SH25A turnoff, on SH25.

Police say initial indications are that there have been serious injuries.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the road is closed, which is until further notice and may be for the rest of the day.

"Please delay your journey or use an alternative route," says an NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

An alternative route is to detour via Waihi.

Earlier, 12.58pm: Emergency services are attending the scene of a crash on State Highway 25, between Hikuai and Whangamata.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi have advised that a serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area.

"Delays are possible,' says an NZTA spokesperson. 

"An update will be provided as soon as more information is available."

Motorists are advised to delay journies, and follow directions of emergency services in the area.
