Parking around Pemberton Park is sure to be at a premium today, Saturday, January 27, with the Greerton Cricket Club 50th Jubilee celebrations in full swing.
Saturday afternoon Jubilee celebrations, will focus on what will be an intense game of cricket with the Eves Realty Greerton premier side taking on long-time rivals Bond & Co Mount Maunganui, in Versatile Williams Cup action.
Over the past half-century, there have been a myriad of close contests between the two clubs, with none much closer than the last time the pair met in the 2023/24 Bay of Plenty Cup.
Round Six of the first 2023-24 Baywide competition, saw Greerton bowled out for what appeared to be a modest 126. Individual honours were taken out by Mount Maunganui's Harry Burns with a six wicket bag and a hard fought 42 runs from Billy Syme.
Mount Maunganui seemed to be headed for victory with 47 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets. Greerton then struck back, with the Mount needing 6 runs with two wickets in hand, entering the last over.
Greerton all-rounder Tom MacRury, then took the last two wickets for a one run victory, with one ball to spare in the game.
Mount Maunganui are sure to be highly motivated to spoil the Greerton celebratory party when they visit Greerton HQ on Saturday.
Flying Mullet Te Puke, will place their unbeaten start to the current Williams Cup competition on the line, when they travel to square off with Sanford Wall Lawyers Central Indians, at Smallbone Park.
The two newest Baywide entrants, in Papamoa and Craigs Geyser City, are likely to have close tussle at the Alice Johnson Oval tucked away in Papamoa.
Generation Homes Lake Taupo have shown good form in Baywide competition this season, and will want to reward their fan-base with a home-town victory, when Craigs Tauranga Boys College pay a visit to Owen Delany Park.
