A caller to SunLive says there is a vehicle crash on State Highway 29 on the Kaimai range.

"Two vehicles are involved," says the SunLive caller.

"The crash is near the old Kaimai road on the Tauranga side of the Kaimai range.

The caller says the fire service is there and appear to be cleaning up a substance.

"One vehicle is off the road, the other is blocking the lane," says the caller.

"Traffic is at a standstill.

"I have been sitting in traffic which is at a standstill for half an hour."

"Expect delays following an earlier crash between both ends of Old Kaimai Rd," says NZTA.

"Crews are working to remove spilled asbestos waste from the road.

"Drive with caution, when passing the scene keep windows closed and air-conditioning turned off."
