A highlight of the week from March 10-17, 2024 at the Waihī Golf Club, would have to be, long-time member, Dot Ramsey scoring an Eagle Two on the 284 metre, par 4 ninth hole!

Congratulations Dot.

The finalists have now been found for the Men’s Beach cup. In the first semi-final Daryll Denyer defeated Stephen Bailey 4/3, while Jason Baldwin overcame Nigel Sanderson 5/3 in the second. The final is to be played next Saturday.

Vets Section:

On Monday a good field in pleasant, but sometimes windy conditions, played a nett haggle. Scoring was sound, and a fine 67 nett by Neil Walker topped the field.

A very close chasing bunch all on nett 68 were Roger Stiles, Des Crene, Peter Wright, Michael Bonnici, and Rae Brown, then Gyan Prole with 69. Adrianne Lynch, Jan Robinson, Peter Hewitt and Avon Gordon all had 70.

On the same day the three pennant’s teams played a further round at Hauraki.

The Waihi Quartz have managed to just retain their position at the head of the field, unfortunately the Ingots and the Nuggets both slipped a little to 7th and 8th. John Libby (Quartz) had the top gross score of the day.

Nine hole results:

The competition for the Nine Hole Section this week was stableford, and with a brilliant 25 points Christine Mercer took the top spot.

Next was Nicola Pooley with 24, then Jenni Mora on 23. Jill Mason and Eleanor Koedyke both had 22, while Lynda Thompson had 21 nett.

Wednesday Ladies:

The haggle of the day was Nett, and the top score was shared between Raewyn Wright and Mavis Bruce with them both having excellent 66’s.

Next was (of course) Dot Ramsey with 67, then Sharon Deacon (69), followed by Michell Libby, Rosalind Giffney, and Wendy Matutinovich all with nett 70.

The Hidden Hole was won by Helen Bains with 9 points. The “Dreamers Player of the Week” was Sharlene Stewart with her good 65 nett.

Thursday Men:

The morning field started with drizzle and endured one heavy shower on a otherwise fine day. In the morning haggle it turned out to be a benefit day for Daryll Denyer winning with 39 points, and he also won the jackpot by scoring two 2’s.

Next in the haggle were Des Crene, Gyan Prole, and Francis Gascoigne all with 38 points, while Bill Tiffin finish with 37.

In the Afternoon Haggle, Malcolm Coldicutt and Alistair Cochrane both topped the field with a creditable 42 points. Next on 38 was Kelly Exelby with 38, while Mark Hope and Ian Diver both had 37, while Peter Dagg finished with 36 points.

Saturday Ladies:  

In the Ladies Nett Haggle it was tough at the top to say the least.

Three ladies tied at the top with all having 69 nett. They were Liz Hale, Phillipa Harvey, and Karen May, with Karen Diggelmann next on 72. Desley Rosevear, Shelly Lithgow, and Susan Mustard all had 74. Liz Hale and Karen May shared the Hidden Hole with 9 points.

Saturday Men:

The Morning Haggle was once again in a repeat performance of a couple of weeks ago blitzed by Brian Robinson dominating the field with 45 stableford points.

Next was Nick Crawford with 40, while Steve Herbert (Stewart Alexander) had 39, followed by Vaughn Meads 38, and Tom Wallace 37. Daryll Denyer was once again the two-specialist by having the only two in the morning.

A good field contested the Afternoon Haggle where again the scoring was good.

Wayne Green took the top honour with 42 stableford points, while in second place was Glenn Ross (Pakuranga) with 41.

Next came Jethro Mears on 39, with Malcolm Coldicutt and Nic Davies both with 38 points. Alistair Cochrane and Jason Baldwin both finished on 37 points
