Following an intensive training period under the guidance of head coach Mary Jane Araroa, the Waikato Bay of Plenty AVIS Magic netball team is primed and ready for an exciting season in the 2024 ANZ Premiership.

The anticipation is high as the season opener, the Hobbiton Movie Set Cup, is set to kick off this weekend on Saturday April 13 at GLOBOX Arena in Hamilton.

The Magic squad is eager to make a statement in their first match against former champions, the Mystics.

"We've put in the hard work during the offseason, and I have full faith in the abilities of our players," says Coach Mary Jane Araroa, expressing confidence in her team.

"We're ready to showcase our skills and compete at the highest level."

The Hobbiton Cup adds something special to the Premiership calendar and Magic General Manager Justine Dixon says it is an event they always look forward to and they value the ongoing support with Hobbiton Movie Set.

“This is an event that is a highlight for everyone involved and unique to the Magic, and our partnership with Hobbiton has been an important part of our recent netball history,” says Justine.

“The Hobbiton Movie Set is one of New Zealand’s most popular international tourist attractions and iconic to our region.  To be able to open our 2024 season with the Hobbiton Cup against the Mystics sets us up well for our campaign ahead and will certainly create a buzz for our fans who come to support us.”

The Magic team, fuelled by a mix of seasoned veterans and promising young talent, is poised to deliver a captivating performance throughout the season.

Fans can expect a display of skill, determination, and teamwork from the Magic players as they aim for success in the ANZ Premiership.
