A person is in serious condition following a crash in Katikati.

Emergency services were called to the crash, involving a car and pedestrian, on Main Road, near Beach Road, around 6.15pm.

In a post on Faceboook, police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

"The pedestrian is said to be in a serious condition.

"The road will be closed while the serious crash uint conducts a scene examination.

"Motorists are asked to take an alternative route."

Southbound traffic is advised to take the following route: left onto Beach Rd then right on Carisbrooke St and right onto Fairview Rd to join back onto SH2.

Northbound traffic is advised to turn right onto Fairview Rd then left onto Carisbrooke St and left onto Beach Rd to join back onto SH2.
