City waters
Water supply
* A water main pipe breakage left a large area of Maungatapu without water between 3pm – 8pm last night. An emergency water shutdown was required while repairs were made to the main.
* The annual mains flushing programme will begin in mid August, taking approximately six weeks to complete. Notices will be placed in local newspapers and on Council's website to notify areas affected.
* A number of planned water shutdowns in the Panorama Drive and Ohauiti Road areas will happen later this week to allow installation of bulk water meters. Affected residents will be advised by way of letter drop. More details are available on Council's website www.tauranga.govt.nz by typing key words 'water shutdowns'.

* Fire hydrant marking and servicing will continue in Otumoetai and throughout the city over the coming year.

Drainage
* Three sewer problems were reported this week:
o In Taupo Avenue, a meter reader reported a fault with a sewer manhole. Investigation revealed a blockage in a private pipeline which was cleared with drainage rods to restore service.
o In Glenlyon Avenue, a fault in the sewer system was reported by a local business in the area. This was found to be a blockage caused by crushed mussel shell in the council main pipe. It was cleared by high pressure jets.
o Off Windermere Drive a local contractor working in the area reported an overflowing sewer manhole. This required high pressure jets to clear the blockage and the cause was not identified. The overflow was contained to the ground around the manhole and the spill area cleaned up and disinfected.
* The Pollution Prevention team were called to a oil spill into a street sump on the corner of Ngatai and Bureta Road. A suction tanker truck was used to vacuum the oil from the sump.
* Work to fix a problematic sewer connection off Churchill Road was completed with a short section of pipe being replaced after it was found to have sagged and broken.
* Work on a number of stormwater soak holes in Cameron Road between Chadwick and SH29 and alongside Race and Golf course sites have been scheduled for remedial work. The street sumps are reported to be not operating well in rain events causing local ponding. All soak holes are buried and need to be located first.
* Work to fix a slump in the open drain off Esmeralda Street was completed with final reinstatement yet to occur
* Stormwater soak hole remedial work to improve drainage off Sherwood Street in Mitchell Park has been scheduled to be done this week .
* Stormwater connection investigations are being done off Pengary Lane and Jason Place. There have been some bank erosion issues around this system.
Inflow reduction project
* Esk Street - council has completed follow up calls to property owners with non complying gully traps. Those property owners not able to be contacted will be visited by Council staff over the next couple of weeks.
* Royal Palms/Fashion Island - A low number of non complying gully traps were found in the area inspected, with some gully traps already fixed before inspection. Council appreciates the work done by owners to do this. Letters to those remaining property owners with non complying gully traps will be sent out over the next week, advising that there is a two month period in which to fix the issue. Further inspections into other parts of the wider Royal Palms area are likely to begin within the next few weeks. Affected property owners will be notified before they begin.
