The 2024 Tauranga Netball Open Premier season is now underway with Round 1 games played at Baypark this week.

With a big shake up to the netball rules in late 2023, local umpires, players and officials are getting their first taste of the new refreshed rules.

The rules focus is on player safety and players taking more responsibility for their own game play, which could mean more suspensions for players.

Following closely behind the ANZ Round 1 games with several suspensions, umpires in this local league dished out several of their own.

All teams came out firing at the beginning of the games, with intercepts forcing the ball up and down the court as teams strived to get the balls into their shooting circle for points to be scored.
