Rugby intercity battle continues

The two sides in the intercity battle between Tauranga and Rotorua are head to head in the Bay of Plenty Rugby AR Plus premier competition.

Defending titleholders Te Puna and Rotorua heavyweight Whakarewarewa couldn't be separated after eighty minutes of rugby on Saturday, with the encounter finishing in a 29-all draw.

Te Puna led 19-10 at the break, before Whaka asserted their authority in the second spell to hold a five points advantage with time up on the clock.

The Blue and Black brigade touched the ball down for five points in the last play of the game, with the conversion sailing outside the posts, to result in the win points on offer being shared.

Te Puke Sports surged to the top of the standings after beating Mount Maunganui by 26 points, courtesy of a solid 45-19 win.

Greerton Marist won a arm wrestle with Tauranga Sports to emerge victorious 28-27.

Rangataua defeated long time rivals Judea in another tight contest 33-31 with Marist St Michaels decidedly winning the Rotorua derby with Ngongotaha 41-5.

Mount Maunganui continued their steamroller approach to the Colts title in defeating Kahukura 48-5 with Te Puna and Papamoa also picking up the win points on offer.
