Waihi Golf Club member Rodger Bagshaw says a week of summer-type weather in the middle of winter has made golf enjoyable for Waihi golfers, after last week's miserable cold weather.
MONDAY VETS:
This week - despite a frosty start - started out in almost summer conditions, that were really appreciated by all the Vets.
This week was the first round of three for the Vet’s Par competition, and leaping out to an early lead was Gary Choat with a +5, with Martine Milicich and Peter Hewitt next on +2.
They were followed by Rob Page, Adele Gunning, Errol Millar, Mavis Bruce and Eddie Ruha all on +1. Next on 0 were Mark Mora, Ken Mustard, Daryll Denyer, Nigel Sanderson, and Edna Connolly.
WEDNESDAY LADIES:
In pleasant weather the ladies played a nett medal haggle with Megan Jowsey having a terrific round of 65 nett to easily beat of Carol Leary in second place with a 70 nett.
Next was Jill Morrison with nett 72, then Mavis Bruce on 73.
Dianne Lockwood had 75, and Karen Lee 76.
The Hidden Holes were shared between Mavis Bruce and Jill Morrison with both having 8 points.
THURSDAY MEN:
The continuing fine weather is producing summer like conditions which is reflected in some good scoring being recorded.
In the Morning Haggle, the Div One was keenly contested with Sam Gurney, Brian Baynes, and Daryll Denyer all recording 38 points, with Rob Page having 37.
In Div Two, Stephen Bailey was first with 40 points, with Ray Fisher next with 38. Michael Bonnici had 37, then Rob Morrison and Rodger Bagshaw both finished with 36 points.
The afternoon contestants really enjoyed the conditions by the scoring.
First with 41 points was Gary Morrison, with Jonathan Clare and Terry Gerbich right behind with 40 points each. All on 39 points were Malcolm Coldicutt, Jamie Sanderson, and Eddie Evans, with Murray Fraser on 38, and David Morris with 37 points.
SATURDAY LADIES:
This week a nett medal haggle was the day’s competition, and it was Jacquie Bain that had the best score with 71 nett.
Then all on 73 nett were Liz Hale, Phillipa Harvey, and Matine Milicich. Then on 74 were Robyn Kirby and Michelle Libby. The Hidden Holes was won by Martine Milicich with 7 points.
SATURDAY MEN:
The final round of three to decide this year’s winner of the Club Cup Par Competition was played on Saturday.
This year’s winner was Greg Bundle who finished on +3, ahead of Chris Pilmer on 0, and Rodger Bagshaw with -1.
A smaller than usual field contested the Morning Haggle which was a par round. First was John Libby on +5, ahead of John Drent +4, and Roger Kemp with +3. Peter Cochrane and Rodger Bagshaw both finished on +2.
The Afternoon Par Haggle was contested by a good-sized field in great weather, and the winner was Greg Bundle well clear on +6. Next was Chris Pilmer with +3, then Terry Gerbich on +2, with Charles Gurr and Norm Kelly both on +1.
All finishing square with the card were Mark Tomsett, Mark Wickham, Eddie Evans, Bill Young. and Murry Butterworth.
