Update, 12.35pm: Waharoa Road East, Matamata is blocked following a two-car crash.

"It happened about 1.40pm near the intersection with Pohlen Road," says a police spokesperson.

Police say that initial indications are that there are serious injuries to two people.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Earlier, 2pm: Emergency services are responding to a vehicle crash near Matamata.

"Police were advised of a crash on Waharoa Road East at 1.40pm," says a police spokesperson.

"There were two vehicles involved."

Police say two people have been reported as being injured. One is in a serious condition, and the other is in a moderate condition.
