Armed police have been seen in Matua, Tauranga.
An NZME reporter says police were in the area of Tilby Drive and Fergusson Park about 4.30pm.
There was at least one dog unit and what appeared to be road spikes laid out.
"Police were called at about 4pm to Tilby Point after a report of a firearm being discharged into the air," says a police spokesperson.
"There were no injuries.
"Armed police attended as a precaution, and a man was taken into custody.
"He will appear in Tauranga District Court on Friday."
