Serious crash near Paeroa closes SH2

Update, 4.45pm: Due to a serious crash State Highway 2 is blccked between Hubbard Road and Brenan Street, north of Paeroa.

"Detours are in place," says an NZTA Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

"Expect delays and take extra care."

Police say the crash involves a quadbike and a police vehicle, with the two occupants on the quadbike in moderate and serious conditions.

A detour is in place via SH26.

Earlier, 4.15pm: Emergency services are responding to a crash on State HIghway 2 near Paeroa.

The crash on Puke Road involves a quadbike and a police vehicle.

"The two occupants on the quadbike are in moderate and serious conditions," says a police spokesperson.

"The road is closed at the scene while a scene examination takes place."

NZTA Waka Kotahi say due to the serious crash SH2 is blocked between Hubbard Road and Brenan Street, north of Paeroa.

A detour is in place via SH26.

Cordons are in place on Puke Road at Hubbard Road and Brenan Street and traffic in the area is being diverted through Paeroa.

An investigation into the crash is underway, says Police.
