Emergency services are responding to a serious crash in the Ōpōtiki area.

NZTA Waka Kotahi says a serious incident has been reported to emergency services on State Highway 2 at Waiotahi.

"Delays are possible." says an NZTA spokesperson.

"An update will be provided as soon as more information is available."

The crash is about 4km south of Ohiwa.

A SunLive reader says a rescue helicopter has arrived at the scene.

"It is right by the Waitomo gas station at Waiotahe," says a SunLive reader.

Motorists are advised to take care in the area.
