Motorists are advised that State Highway 36 through the Mangorewa Gorge between Pyes Pa and Hamurana will be closed overnight for urgent repair work to be undertaken.

The closure is to allow for an urgent replacement of a collapsed stormwater culvert.

NZTA Waka Kotahi said SH36 will be closed in both directions. 

"State Highway 36 between Pyes Pa Rd and Hamurana will be closed overnight on Monday September 16 from 8pm to 4am on Tuesday September 17 says an NZTA spokesperson.

Motorists are advised to follow the detour route and allow extra time for journeys.

All vehicles detour via SH29A, SH2 Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road, continuing to SH33 through Paengaroa, then SH30 and SH30A through Rotorua, turning right onto SH5 and rejoining SH36 at Ngongotaha.
