Ben Pomare from Bay of Plenty will replace Tim Seifert for Northern Districts in round three of the Ford Trophy against Canterbury at Hagley Oval tomorrow.

Seifert is unavailable because of family commitments.

Northern Districts beat Central Districts at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth on Wednesday, winning by just eight runs in a thrilling match that saw nearly 700 runs scored in 88 overs.

Seifert scored his third List A hundred for his team, while Henry Cooper added a rapid 92 off 62 deliveries.

The pair combined for 14 sixes, with Northern Districts hitting 21 in total.

“Seif [Tim Seifert] and I looked to keep the scoreboard ticking over and then played on instinct when we wanted to put the foot down,” Cooper said.

The ND bowlers supported the batting unit admirably, restricting the scoring early before picking up wickets regularly in the last 10 overs to close out the win.

“On a ground that is very tough to defend on, a real credit goes to our bowlers,” Cooper said.

All the bowlers used by captain Jeet Raval picked up a wicket and showed balance across the bowling unit.

“The lads put Central Districts under pressure early and then remained calm and trusted their skills when the pressure was put back on us at the death.”

Tomorrow’s match at Hagley Oval will start at 10.30am, with the coin toss at 10am.
