More than 100 people have been walking around Mauao taking on The Good Walk challenge of 30 laps in 30 days raising money for Good Neighbour.

On Saturday, November 2, the teams and community are coming together to walk the final lap. Everyone is welcome to be a part of the final walk by meeting at the Good Neighbour tent outside the surf lifesaving club from 1pm-2pm.

Grab a lanyard and walk for the good of the community.

The family afternoon out will be running from 1pm-4pm.

Walkers can arrive from 1pm getting ready to head off around the mount at 2pm.

There will be fun activities for the kids, face painting, sausage sizzle, live music, and at 330pm, some of the players from the All Blacks Sevens will be making an appearance to help support The Good Walk and be available to kick a ball around with the kids for a meet and greet.

“The Good Walk is about coming together for a cause greater than ourselves; it’s about doing life in community; it’s about getting some fresh air and being active,” Good Neighbour general manager Renee Hanna said.

“The Good Walk provides an opportunity for residents of Tauranga and the Western Bay to be a part of the solution to many challenges our community face.

“The need in our city is growin, and so we must find a way to grow with this need. This fundraiser is a part of the way we are doing that.”

Good Neighbour plans to make this its major annual fundraiser and hopes it will provide an ability to expand and strengthen its impact in the Western Bay Community year on year.

Contributing funds through The Good Walk allows the incredible mahi of Good Neighbour to continue.

“The Good Walk was created as a way of bringing people together to unite for a meaningful cause,” Hanna said.

About Good Neighbour

Good Neighbour is an organisation playing a key role in transforming our community in the Bay of Plenty.

Powered by 300-plus volunteers, the charity provides the community with food rescue, diverting 580 tonnes of food from landfill each year and then delivering to homes in need.

Good Neighbour is founded on the belief that as a “community we’re responsible for taking care of each other”.

Whether it’s as a volunteer, giving financially or corporate sponsorship, we all have something to offer and a responsibility to help as best we can.

“We have some of our teams for different reasons walking a different path,” Hanna said.

“Carmel Country Estate are teaming up to do laps around their village whereas some teams are coming together as a large group and sharing the load by walking together to achieve the 30 laps.

“These are great examples of people coming together to do what they can to support a great cause.”

Good Neighbour is looking for the community to donate to any of the teams who are walking The Good Walk.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you have, we can all give something and it will go a long way through Good Neighbour.

“In fact, for every dollar you give to Good Neighbour, the social impact is worth $4.50.”

To further the impact of your donations, The Good Walk is proudly supported by Synergy Tech NZ, Carmel Country Estate, Trinity Lands and Holland Beckett, which are matching donations dollar for dollar.

Good Neighbour encourages businesses to play their part in transforming the community they operate in by giving back to charities like Good Neighbour.

The Good Walk is a great opportunity for businesses to donate.
