More than 2000 runners and walkers are currently registered ahead of this Sunday’s Mitre 10 MEGA Tauranga City to Surf Fun Run/Walk.

The long-range weather forecast is looking overcast with light winds and maybe some showers sprinkled in there, which are ideal conditions for completing a 21.1 km half marathon, 11km or 5km run/walk.

The Jarden 21.1km half marathon, United Airlines 11km and Bay of Plenty Times 5km events all take in a lap of the mighty Mauao base track and finish on the sand of the Mount Main Beach, highlighting the best parts this amazing city has to offer.

Every finisher receives a medal for their efforts, and there are plenty of spot prizes on offer for all competitors, including the major spot prize of flights for two people ex Auckland to San Francisco thanks to United Airlines. Corporates and clubs/gyms can also fight for bragging rights in the 11km City to Surf Team Challenge.

With a distance for everyone from 5 years plus, why not involve the whole family?

Running events are seeing a surge in popularity and we are looking forward to welcoming all the competitors on to the main beach for the most scenic finish line around.

“We know everyone can run these routes whenever they want to, and that is great thanks to the local council providing those opportunities, however attending events offers our competitors the full experience of the build-up of training, preparations and maybe heading away for a weekend with friends or family,” said managing director of event promotions Murray Fleming.

“Then on the day you are out there with all the other participants in such a supportive environment which pushes you along. The atmosphere and cheer squads along the course and at the end when you cross that finish line is something you simply can’t replicate on your own.”

All information can be found on the Event Promotions website.
