Serious crash: SH36 closed, one critically injured

Emergency services are responding to a serious crash near Rotorua.

UPDATE: One person has been critically injured and a road is closed following a crash involving a truck near Rotorua.

Police said they were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Dalbeth and Hamurana Rds about 8.30am.

One of the vehicles is a truck.

State Highway 36 is closed near Dalbeth Rd following a crash and motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

Southbound traffic is being diverted up Dalbeth Rd, with northbound traffic diverted via Waiteti Rd.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said two people, one in a critical condition and one in a minor condition, were being taken to Rotorua Hospital.

Two ambulances and one operations manager went to crash.

A Fire Emergency NZ spokesman said three trucks were at the scene and crews worked to get a person out of one of the vehicles using rescue tools.

A traffic alert from NZ Transport Agency said the road is closed.

Detours are as follows: Light vehicles may detour via Waiteti Rd and Leonard Rd. Heavy vehicles may use Oturoa Rd between SH36 and SH5 in Ngongotaha - or use SH30, SH33 and SH2 between Rotorua and Tauranga.
