Emergency services are responding to a water rescue near Mount Maunganui.

“Police received a report of a person in the water requiring assistance in Mount Maunganui around 1.15pm,” a Police spokesperson said.

Police said a rescue is in progress.

A SunLive reader said they can see a dinghy towing a yacht.

A spokesperson for Tauranga Volunteer Coastguard said a person had fallen overboard from a small yacht.

“Someone is assisting them straightaway. We don’t need to send Coastguard out."
