One hundred years of Morris Garages’ (MG) motoring heritage will be celebrated at a vintage car show at Farmers Auto Village, Mount Maunganui on Saturday.
“We have nine older cars represented from 1934 to 2004, including the 80th-anniversary car,” MG car club Auckland MGF/TF co-ordinator Alan Thorn said.
One of the day’s highlights would be a 1939 WA Tickford.
“It is one of 15 left in the world,” Thorn said.
Along with the blast from the past, the gathering will also offer a look into the future, with the all-electric MG Cyberster gracing the show.
For 50 years, Thorn has had a passion for MG, getting his first when he was 25-years old.
“It’s got that sort of mark of class and things like that around it.”
Thorn said the Saturday show will be a chance to introduce a new generation of car enthusiasts to the MG brand.
“We’re having another generation of young people in their 20s buying MGS and enjoying them.”
MG, a British motoring staple, was acquired by Chinese SAIC Motor in 2007. Manufacturing now takes place in its factories in China. In 2023, MG Motor sold approximately 840,000 vehicles globally.
