One person is dead and two others are in serious condition following a crash on State Highway 25.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crassh at Orongo at 10.10am.

In a statement this afternoon, a police spokesperson confirmed the fatality.

"One person sadly died at the scene, two other people were seriously injured.

"The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit conduct a scene examination.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."
