As summer festivals approach, McDonald’s and Kiwi DJ Jess Rhodes are remixing road safety with a modern take on the classic Kiwi anthem ‘Make It Click’.

Originally launched in the eighties, ‘Make It Click’ influenced a generational change in seatbelt use.

It was then re-released by McDonald’s in 2003 to a new generation, now Millennials and Gen X as part of their road safety education.

Now, the anthem returns with a fresh D’n’B mix reminding a younger generation of drivers to click it twice – buckle up and activate ‘do not disturb’ on their devices to stay focused behind the wheel.

A third of drivers and passengers die on our roads because they aren’t wearing their seatbelt – that’s 90 kiwis this year.

As festival season ramps up, McDonald’s is calling on Kiwis to prioritise safety while enjoying their summer adventures.

“The key message of ‘Make It Click’ is just as important today as it was 21 years ago, said Luke Rive, McDonald’s Director of Marketing.

“Too many lives are still being lost by not wearing your seatbelt or distracted driving.

“But giving this classic track a makeover, we hope to reach a new generation of kiwis in a fun and meaningful way.”

D’n’B DJ Jess Rhodes is bringing her unique sound to this nostalgic tune giving it the banger baselines for a summer of dance floors.

Rhodes will debut the track during he set at Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne on New Year’s Eve.

“I’m thrilled to remix this classic,” said Rhodes.

“It’s such an iconic piece of Kiwi culture, and I hope it becomes the road trip anthem of the summer, reminding everyone to buckle up and focus while driving.”

Rhodes will also document her “Rhodes to Rhythm’’ journey, sharing road safety tips and enjoying McDonald’s stops along the way.

Further NZ DJs will also join the movement through McDonald’s Open Doors, they’ll be having some fun remixing their own version of ‘Make It Click’ too.
