State Highway 29 through the Kaimāī Range will close nightly, affecting travel between Waikato and the Bay of Plenty in February.

State Highway 29 (SH29) across the Kaimāī Range will face full closures from 8pm to 4.30am on February 9-13 and 16-20 to allow essential night work on the western Waikato-side summit.

Travelers commuting between Waikato and the Bay of Plenty during these dates must plan and use alternative routes.

During the daytime, SH29 will remain open with traffic management and speed restrictions, allowing passage from 4.30am to 8.00pm.

However, the closures are expected to cause significant detours at night, as traffic will be redirected.

Suggested alternative routes include SH2 to SH26 to SH1 to SH29 in the north and SH2 to SH33 to SH30 to SH5 to SH28 to SH1 for southern travellers.

Both routes comply with High-Productivity Motor Vehicle (HPMV) standards, ensuring access for freight vehicles and general motorists.

Motorists are advised to follow updates, plan for delays, and exercise caution while navigating affected areas during construction.

The night closures aim to ensure worker safety and progress on critical road maintenance.
