Two people are in a serious condition following a single vehicle crash on State Highway 2 near Waihi.

A police spokesperson said Tauranga Rd near Waihi was blocked following a serious crash last night.

“The single-vehicle crash happened about 10km south of the town just after 8pm.

“Indications are there are serious injuries. The road is blocked and motorists are asked to take alternate routes.”

A St John spokesperson said they were called out to a traffic incident about 8pm on Tauranga Rd, Waihi.

“Two ambulances, two rapid response units, two helicopters and an operations manager were dispatched to the scene.

“Two patients in a critical condition were airlifted to Waikato Hospital and one in a moderate condition was taken by road.”

NZTA reports the road is open this morning.
