The traffic that built up across Maungatapu Bridge on State Highway 29A is now easing following a truck blocking the highway earlier.

Motorists experienced congestion on State Highway 29A near the Maungatapu Bridge following a truck breaking down.

"A truck blocking SH29A near Maungatapu Bridge was reported to Police around 3.37pm," said a police spokesperson.

"Contractors were contacted and a tow was notified."

Motorists are advised to expect delays as congestion eases.
