A hunting and fishing competition just for children will take place this weekend.
Scott and Sarah Adamson from Aongatete and a few of their friends love hunting, and their kids do too. They’ve decided to start a hunting event for young ones.
“We just wanted to have some competition amongst friends and then thought we might get the community involved as well and it all just fell into place. Our kids love outdoors and we all enjoy seeing them light up,” said Sarah.
The Kids Hunting and Fishing Competition is on from April 11-13 for ages 13 and under.
On the hunting side of the competition is possums, rabbits, hares and magpies (prize for the most magpies) and fishing includes snapper, kahawai, trevally, kingfish and spotty and piper.
It’s an individual event with no teams. Hunting can be anywhere in the Bay of Plenty where legally allowed to shoot.
Registration and kids’ goodie bags on April 11 from 3.30-6pm at Trailor Made, 2697 SH2 (children don’t need to be there but are welcome). The event starts any time from registration.
Weigh-in is at Trailor Made on April 13 from 1-3pm with prizegiving at 4pm. Email kidshuntingandfishingcomp@gmail.com for information.

Fishing I suppose is acceptable, but to teach small children how to kill small defenseless animals is barbaric.
