The Katikati Stags are now preparing to take on Arataki after winning against Pāpāmoa at the weekend.
The Stags travelled to Pāpāmoa on Saturday for a much-anticipated clash in perfect rugby conditions - sunny skies and high energy all around, writes coach Quinton Landman.
The boys were fizzing, and after a sharp, focused warm-up, the Stags hit the field with intent as the game got under way.
Right from the kick-off, both sides came out firing, stringing together impressive phases and laying down the challenge early.
After 10 minutes of brutal back-and-forth action, the Stags broke through Pāpāmoa’s defensive line to score the opening try, confidently converted by Fero Sukanaivalu.
The momentum stayed with Katikati as they quickly dotted down another try soon after, electrifying the crowd.
Not to be outdone, Pāpāmoa fought their way downfield with some solid attacking phases, eventually earning a penalty try that put pressure back on the visitors.
But the Stags weren’t rattled — they dug deep, laying down fierce defensive efforts and punishing attacks that tested Pāpāmoa’s resolve.
With dominance in the set piece — especially lineouts and scrums — and relentless forward pressure, Katikati kept the scoreboard ticking, crossing the white line multiple times as the game wore on.
The final whistle blew with the Stags convincingly ahead, claiming a 47–7 victory.
Massive shout-out to Pāpāmoa for the hard-fought game and their outstanding hospitality!
