UPDATE: A section of State Highway 25 in Coromandel has reopened after an injured person was found on Kopu Rd.

Police were called to the scene about 5.50am after a person was found with serious injuries, a spokeswoman said.

Police have now established that the person had suffered a medical event.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said one ambulance and one helicopter went to the scene and one person was airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

SH25 between Kopu Rd and SH26 was closed for a time but has since reopened.

A section of highway in Coromandel is closed after an injured person was found on the road this morning.

Police were called to Kopu Rd about 5.50am after a person was found with serious injuries, a spokeswoman said.

“The person has been transported to hospital and police are working to determine how the person came to be injured.”

No other information was available, the spokeswoman said.

NZ Transport Agency said State Highway 25 between Kopu Rd and SH26 was closed due to a police incident.
