New Zealand Food Safety (NZFS) is supporting NZ Drinks Ltd in recalling Hydr8 Spring Water (600ml x 24 packs) due to the potential presence of blue plastic shreds in the product.
Vincent Arbuckle, deputy director-general of NZFS, said the concern with the affected batches is that they could contain soft fragments of blue plastic, posing a choking hazard.
He said anyone who has Hydr8 Spring Water in the 24-pack of 600ml bottles, with best-before dates of 10 June 2027, 11 June 2027 or 16 June 2027, should not drink it. Consumers are advised to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. If that is not possible, they should dispose of it.
The affected products were sold at selected supermarkets throughout the North Island. NZFS confirmed the products have been removed from store shelves and have not been exported.
No injuries associated with the contamination have been reported to New Zealand Food Safety.
Mr Arbuckle said NZFS will work with NZ Drinks Ltd to determine how the contamination occurred and to prevent a recurrence.
