Tauranga businesses have a new ally in well-known business strategist, Mark Irving, who has joined the Tauranga Business Chamber in a role aimed at fostering business growth and development across the region.
Chamber CEO Matt Cowley said as a well-respected business leader with deep local connections, Irving would be a unique resource for businesses – offering clarity, direction, connections, and solutions to a wide range of business queries and strategic initiatives.
“This role is all about amplifying what we already do well – connecting businesses, growing capability, and creating opportunities that matter,” said Cowley.
“Mark is widely respected for his professional, approachable, and effective style, connecting the right people at the right time, and generating tangible results for everyone. He is the ideal person to lead this next step.”
Cowley said Irving has a deep understanding of the economic development, commercial and business, and the public platforms in the Bay of Plenty.
Best known for his leadership as general manager of business partnerships at Priority One, he created and led the Tauranga CBD Blueprint - a landmark initiative that saw more than $1.5b invested in the revitalisation of Tauranga’s city centre.
In this new role, Irving will focus on strengthening the value the Chamber provides to its members by creating new business connections, commercial opportunities, and growing the Chamber’s influence across the region.
“My belief is that a well-connected and informed business community is one of the strongest tools we have for regional resilience and growth,” said Irving.
He said his role would, above all, be about listening to members, understanding their needs, and being a bridge between them and the broader opportunities available.
“The Tauranga and Western Bay business community is incredibly dynamic and resilient, with a strong foundation of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and growth.
“However, they are generally facing rising costs, workforce and skill shortages, uncertain global conditions, and infrastructure pressures.
“In the face of these challenges, I see this role as both an enabler and an advocate – supporting business development through strategic business to business connections.”
