Stolen car halted by police spikes near Te Puke

Two people are in police custody after road spikes were deployed to stop an alleged stolen vehicle.

Police received reports of a stolen vehicle driving dangerously on State Highway 29A, Poike, at 5.30am this morning.

“Police did not pursue but deployed spikes in front of the vehicle,” police said in a statement.

“The vehicle was stopped a short time later and two people were taken into custody near Jellicoe St, Te Puke.”

Police said one youth has been arrested and charged with “driving-related charges”.
