This September, Mount Maunganui is set to turn up the energy as Zespri AIMS Games teams up with Mount Mainstreet to host the first Pilot Bay Plunge.
The plunge is described as a “high-spirited cold-water dip for this year’s sporting competitors”, according to a statement on behalf of Mount Mainstreet.
Today at 4pm, Pilot Bay will set the scene for a crisp swim in the harbour waters.
The event is designed to celebrate the camaraderie, achievement and team spirit of the Zespri Aims Games, giving athletes the chance to cool off after a week of competition, all while creating an epic shared memory.
The first 50 registered participants will wrap up in style with a free Zespri-branded towel, and everyone who takes the plunge can warm up with free pizza from Pizza Library after the swim.
The rewards don’t stop there: 100 pieces of sparkling jewellery from Awa Designs and two one-night stays at Quest Mount Maunganui are also up for grabs for lucky participants. Moana Road will also be handing out 50 hats, 50 tote bags, and a bunch of vouchers, too.
“This is all about celebrating the amazing energy of the Zespri AIMS Games that takes over our slice of paradise each year,” Rae Baker, Mount Mainstreet’s head of strategy and growth, said.
“It’s the perfect challenge to entice people to embrace the Mount’s warm, welcoming community.
“The Pilot Bay Plunge will be a moment you’ll never forget.”

“We love being part of the Aims Games; it couldn’t be a better fit with Zespri’s commitment to building healthy and happy communities,” said Rachel Lynch, Zespri’s government and community affairs manager.
“It’s great to see Mount Mainstreet get involved this year and host the Pilot Bay Plunge, bringing visitors to a stunning part of the Bay and adding to the tournament buzz with free pizza and fun prizes.”
The Pilot Bay Plunge is free to join, and open to all Zespri Aims Games athletes.
