Motorists face another round of night closures on the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road, with crews preparing to lift massive bridge beams into place as part of the next phase of the Pāpāmoa East Interchange build.
In the next phase of construction for the Pāpāmoa East Interchange, work is focused on building the bridge itself, said Tauranga City Council.
“To support construction activity across the motorway, a number of night closures for the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road will be required over the coming months, including tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 17.
“This night closure will allow us to lift three bridge beams into place; work that commenced mid-August when we installed the first nine beams.”

To safely complete this work, council said traffic in both directions of the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road will be diverted via Te Puke Highway from 8pm Wednesday, September 17, until 5am Thursday, September 18.
Additional closures
As council works towards the completion of the bridge, further night closures are anticipated over the coming months.
“This will enable the safe construction of the bridge deck base and the installation of bridge barriers.
“When progress allows, we’ll be able to remove the concrete barriers that support the current lane reduction on the motorway, which will also be done during a night closure.”
