Five people have been injured in a crash on State Highway 2, Paengaroa.
Police were called at around 2.40pm with a report of a two-vehicle crash.
A spokesperson said the road was partially blocked but traffic was still moving.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said the service was called at 2.36pm and sent three ambulances.
Five patients were assessed and taken to Tauranga Hospital.
One was in a serious condition, three in a moderate condition and one in a minor condition.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand communications centre operations manager Daniel Nicholson said no one was trapped in the vehicles and firefighters were assisting police with road control.
“We stood all of our other appliances and responders down."
